Rust
For light rust stains, use water and a scrub sponge with mild soap.
For heavy rust stains, use a cleanser containing lemon acid.
Rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning.
Oil and Grease
Remove oil and grease immediately with a degreasing agent or soap.
If stains have set in, they can be difficult to remove. Lightly sanding with fine sandpaper, following the wood grain, may help to reduce the appearance of the stain.
Rinse with warm water after cleaning.
Wine/Fruit Stains
Clean with a suitable cleaning agent and water.
For stubborn stains, try a solution of Oxalic acid and warm water (test in an inconspicuous area first).
Rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning.
Smudges/Scratches
Light smudges and scratches can often be buffed out with fine sandpaper, following the wood grain.
General Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular sweeping or scrubbing with a deck brush will help maintain the appearance of your deck.
A garden hose or pressure washer can be used for more thorough cleaning. However, maintain a safe distance between the nozzle and the decking surface to avoid damage.
Be aware that sanding or scrubbing may reveal the original color of the decking material.
Use a protective mat under BBQs to prevent grease stains.
Avoid placing fire baskets directly on the decking surface.
